 Trek the Tiger Leaping Gorge and experience real rural China


This tour combines trekking the famous Tiger Leaping Gorge with walking through remote farm villages to experience village life in China today. You will need to be reasonably fit to walk between 4 and 8 hours each day with some steep climbs. You will also need a sense of adventure as some of the facilities in rural China are basic. You will be rewarded with spectacular views, authentic local food, great guides and a real appreciation of life in rural China.

DAY	DESTINATION	SCENIC SPOTS	MEAL
D1	Arrive in Kunming.	Arrival in Kunming, meet you in airport, transfer to hotel. City tour if time is possible.	4 star hotel Meals: D
D2	Kunming--Lijiang by air	Fly to Lijiang. Check out hotel, take morning flight to Lijiang, meet you in Lijiang airport, visit Lijiang ancient town, black dragon Pool, Shuhe Ancient Town	4 start hotel Meals: B/L/D
D3	Lijiang--Tiger Leaping Gorge(car/van)-Half Way Tiger Leaping Gorge by trekking.	Lijiang--Tiger Leaping Gorge(car)-Half Way Tiger Leaping Gorge by trekking. Drive 40km's to Qiaotou which is the upper region of Tiger Leaping Gorge. Begin to trek for 20 Kilometers, 6 hours to the Half Way Guesthouse Tiger at Leaping Gorge. The first two hours of this walk are steadily uphill followed by lunch at a Naxi restaurant. The first hour after lunch is quite hard with a steep climb through the "28 bends". After that the walk to Half Way guesthouse is gentle downhill. The Half Way guesthouse features a deck with views to the gorge and the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Overnight in Half Way Hostel.	Half Way Hostel. Meals: B/L/D
D4	Half Way Hostel-Daju	Half Way Hostel-Daju Walk for 2 to 3 hours along the gorge to reach Tina's Guesthouse. Have lunch on the verandah and descend (conditions permitting) to the bottom of the Tiger Leaping Gorge and then climb back to Tina's. Transfer by car to a village further along the valley. Walk for an hour to the Jinsha river and cross by ferry. Walk for another 30 minutes to arrive in the village of Daju.	Daju village. Meals: B/L/D
D5	Daju--Minying--Guole (trekking)	Daju--Minying--Guole (trekking) Leave the village of Daju on foot and trek through farm plots for around two hours before climbing to the village of Minying which will take between 4 and 6 hours. The climb is broken by a picnic lunch. Transfer by car from Minying to Guole.	in Guole Village Meals: B/L/D
D6	Guole--Stone Town	Guole--Stone Town Trek for 4 hours from Guole to Stone Town over a small mountain enjoying spectacular views of rural China. Stone Town is a 700 year old village built entirely on one rock. After arrival have lunch in Stone Town, tour the village itself and either rest or sightsee along the Jinsha river valley.	Mu's Family House. Meals: B/L/D
D7	Stone Town---the Yulong Mountain .	Stone Town ---the Yulong Mountain . Walk up a mountain near Stone Town with views back over the valley. This will take around 5 hours with a picnic lunch. Transfer by car at the end of the walk to Shuhe. Overnight in Shuhe.	Hostel in Shuhe area or Lijiang ancient town. Meals: B/L/D
D8	Yulong Mountain, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain-Lijiang	Yulong Mountain , Transfer by car to the the Yuhu Lake , trek around Jade Dragon Snow Mountain/Yulong Mt for 5-6 hours, then (conditions permitting) to the Shuijing Dong with an altitude of 4200 meters above sea level . Return to Lijiang by car Visit the Lijiang ancient Town. Overnight in Lijiang.	4 start hotel. Meals: B/L/D
D9	Lijiang--Kunming by air	Lijiang - Kunming Fly back to Kunming to complete the tour.	B/

Notes:
1. This trip is vehicle supported by vehicle access is not possible at all locations. The bulk of your luggage can be stored in Lijiang. Luggage for the overnight stays will travel in the car. You will have to carry personal effects for the Half Way guesthouse and Daju as there will be no vehicle access. Other than those days you will just need to carry a day pack.
2. Accommodation is basic but clean. A shower is available every night except Guole. Facilities are generally shared with some guesthouses having a small number of en-suite rooms. The facilities at Guole are a public toilet.
3. Water is provided each day.

Situated between Mt. Yulong and Mt. Haba (the altitudes of which are 5596 meters and 5396 meters above sea level respectively ), Tiger- Leaping Gorge is one of the most precipitous gorges in the world. The canyon is so deep and so closed to the two mountains of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain, that you will hardly see the similar spectacles any where in the world. 

The Yangtze River flows through the gorge, and the water rushing at the huge cliff looks like a fury dragon running forward. The route is challenging and arduous.
