Old
British Consulate
|

The former British
Consulate building stands in the northwest part of Tengchong
, beyond the large gate of the Municipal Foodstuffs compund
(Liangshi Bu ) . It is unmistakable ,with its huge , barn-like
roof and slightly upturned eaves . Look in and you will see
that it has become a warehouse for grain , oil and liquor .
Remnants of an old map are on the top floor . This impressive
building was constructed in 1916 .

Mountains
and Volcanoes
|
|
Western
Yunnan is a zone of volcanic and subterranean thermal activity
. North of Tengchong is a minor wonderland of some 100 volcanic
cones that dot a broad plain. Forty-three kilometers north of
the city is the Gaoligong Shan Nature Reserve with its beautiful
peaks and forests . Nearly is Yunfeng Shang , a Daoist mountain
that retains remnants of late Ming and early Qng temples and pavilions

Heshun Village
|

It's worth
hiking or cycling back to take a closer look at the village
. It has been set aside as kind of retirement village
for Overseas Chinese , but for the average western visitors
it's likely to be of more interest as a quiet , traditional
Chinese village with cobbled streets . There are some
great old buildings in the village , providing
lots of photos opportunities . You
may also get
a chance to meet some older English-speaking Chinese .
